Glazing Vision was proud to contribute to this home transformation, breathing new life into an outdated extension with carefully specified Flushglaze single-part and multi-part rooflights.

The specification of Glazing Vision Fixed Flushglaze and Multi-Part Rooflights illuminated a previously dark and dingy extension, whilst managing heat and light control, transforming a dated extension into a bright and welcoming space in the heart of the home.

The Brief

The original extension at this Teddington property was constructed two decades ago and featured multiple lantern rooflights and a poorly positioned cloakroom.

While the lanterns introduced daylight, they also contributed to significant overheating, which contributed to an uncomfortable living environment.

Architecture W K was tasked with reconfiguring the layout and roof glazing to eliminate these issues. Their brief highlighted two primary requirements: maximise daylight and minimise heat gain, so they came to Glazing Vision.

The Result

To meet these performance and aesthetic goals, Glazing Vision supplied a combination of Fixed and Multi-Part Flushglaze Rooflights.

Before the extension project (Pictured left), the natural daylight from the lantern skylights was not distributed evenly. Consequently, corners of the room were left in darkness, contributing to an isolated feeling in the room.

Glazing Vision flat rooflights were used to effectively open up the spaces and create a more unified family kitchen/dining area.

The frameless internal design of the Flushglaze Rooflights allowed maximum natural daylight penetration, meeting the client’s goal of opening up the room to create a more welcoming and unified space.

All rooflights specified for this extension project were manufactured with double-glazed glass featuring a specialist Low-E coating, which allows for reduced heat transfer to the room below, as emphasised in the brief.

A modern kitchen features sleek cabinetry in warm wood tones, a dark stone countertop, and a minimalist design. A pendant light hangs above a small bar stool, and a narrow hallway leads to a doorway. Natural light filters in through a skylight.

The Details

To increase natural daylight flow in the new extension, Architecture W K specified three Fixed Flushglaze Rooflights measuring 1120mm x 3550mm and 1500mm x 1000mm, and a Flushglaze Multi-Part Rooflight joined together with a silicone seal to maintain the sleek, frameless internal appearance.

The Multi-Part Flushglaze is located in the middle of the footprint, ensuring a welcoming and light space in addition to the stepped layout, dictated by site conditions, which was carefully considered in the glazing placement. The result is a beautifully unified kitchen-dining area, where natural daylight reaches every corner.

A Strong Partnership

Glazing Vision has fostered a strong partnership with Architecture W K, working together to transform homes through natural daylight for over 16 years.

The foundation for this partnership came from excellent products and customer service, but also from having a deep understanding of architects’ requirements.

When asked about the long-standing partnership, Architecture W K commented:

We value excellent customer service and a reliable product when specifying rooflights. The elements in the external fabric of a building are not ones that any client wants to change after going through a building project, and we therefore specify Glazing Vision

This strong partnership is built on mutual trust, shared values, and consistent product performance, and we look forward to working with them again soon to breathe new life into properties through the transformative power of natural daylight.

Before the renovation, the space suffered from uneven daylighting and thermal discomfort, but has now been transformed into an open and cohesive extension, turning what was once an underwhelming area into the heart of the home.

This project demonstrates the impact of well-specified roof glazing on both aesthetics and performance.
