Installed over a central indoor solarium in Silicon Valley, this Multi-Part Flushglaze Skylight floods the heart of the home with natural daylight, transforming the interior courtyard into a sun-drenched space for relaxing, creating the ideal environment for comfortable daily living.
In a newly constructed single-family home located in Silicon Valley, California, the architectural focal point is a centralized indoor solarium, designed to provide a bright and welcoming space for the family to relax. It also provides the perfect environment for their array of plants to thrive in.
To execute this vision, the home required an expansive overhead glazing solution capable of flooding the core with natural daylight while maintaining strict energy efficiency standards in Northern California's sunny climate.
Spanning nearly 11 ft by 13 ft, the aperture required a high-performance skylight to finalize the design. Our Multi-Part Flushglaze Skylight was selected for its modular versatility, utilizing slim aluminum back-to-back angle supports across three glass sections. The clean metal profile complements the surrounding interior materials, echoing the sightlines of the glass wall partitions below.
With such a large expanse of glazing over a contained space, regulating solar heat gain was a primary priority. The Multi-Part unit was specified with Tempered Solar Control glass, engineered to filter out harsh UV radiation and solar heat while maximizing visible light transmission. This maintains a comfortable ambient temperature in the space and surrounding rooms while providing an abundance of natural daylight.
In addition to thermal comfort, the solar control glazing was specified to meet California’s strict Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards.
Architecturally, the exterior roofscape demanded a daylighting solution that felt like a natural extension of the building envelope rather than an awkward add-on.
Our Multi-Part Skylight was seamlessly integrated into the standing seam roof, due to the low-profile design of our entire Flushglaze range, the unit sits cleanly within the roofscape while maintaining the crisp, linear character of the metal seams.
